Your Guide to Wedding Lighting
Lighting is one of the most impactful investments you can make for your wedding. It’s a great way to set the mood, brighten up the venue, or give it a romantic feel.
From uplights to fairy lights backdrops, wedding lighting can add drama and ambience to make your wedding day more special.
But where to start?
We wanted to bring you a guide to wedding lighting as we’re heading into the warmer months and having more outdoor weddings. We’ve also had several brides ask us about the different lighting options which encouraged us to write this blog post.
This is a great and simple way to light any room. Have a basic venue for your reception? Lighting around the perimeter of the room can light walls and add color that can be changed to suit a mood or theme.
These small but powerful uplights can transform your venue and add the drama you’re looking for.
Chandeliers are a great focus point for your ceremony or reception. They can add that elegant glamour to the venue or keep it warm and fairytale like depending on the theme.
String lights are most effective in creating a gorgeous detail for a sunset or evening wedding. Don’t worry, though, daytime weddings can have twinkle lights too, especially if your reception is indoors. String lights are also a great enhancement to take a tent from ordinary to magical under a starry night
LED Lights Backdrop
We’ve recently added fairy lights backdrop to our inventory due to the high demand from our brides. Do you envy those Pinterest photos on your boards? With this rental you can now recreate your favorite Pinterest photo. These soft and romantic lights are great on their own and behind backdrops.

These are an inexpensive option to create romantic backdrops and centerpieces for intimate weddings. You can’t go wrong with floating candles, tea lights, and candles.
These are a great way to add some depth and texture to venue ceilings and tents. They are also gorgeous in photographs!
While you may get your string lights tangled every single Christmas, as an event rental store, we’ve decorated numerous venues with lights every year.
Here’s a few of tips for planning your gorgeous wedding lighting.
TALK TO YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER
Photographing lights is a real skill. If you’re dreaming of gorgeous night time shots under a sky of fairy lights, make sure that’s something your photographer can do.
And don’t forget to let them know your lighting plans so they can bring the right equipment on the day.
While you know how much we love DIY weddings (link to old blog post about diy wedding) – do be careful when it comes to DIY lighting.
If it requires more than just plugging in some fairy lights or lighting some candles, we suggest bringing in the professionals!
GET VENUE PERMISSION
You might have your heart set on 20,000 light bulbs adorning your wedding, but your venue could have other ideas.
Before you book lighting for your wedding, chat to your venue, not only about what lighting equipment they have already, but what you’re permitted to add. Some older buildings, or more remote venues might have dated fuse boards, electricity restrictions, or rules on what can be hung from ceilings and walls.
So many gorgeous lighting inspiration – did you pin them all? Or was that just us!
